Robin has over 50 years experience in Information Technology, including 10 years with IBM in their WebSphere Education division. He has a strong background in commercial application development, mainly in COBOL, and more recently specializes in consulting and delivering IBM software training, especially IBM MQ, IBM Integration Bus, IBM App Connect Enterprise, IBM DataPower Gateway, and WebSphere Application Server.
His background includes project management, consulting, application design, and development in various areas including health services, banking, aerospace, and military systems.
Robin’s past experience and employment history includes LearnQuest, IBM, Candle Corporation, Aspect Computing, Tandem, Digital Equipment Corporation, Cullinet Software, Wang, and NCR. His roles included application developer, product consultant, systems engineering manager, marketing manager, instructor, training needs analyst, and training manager. He also worked for a consulting company in Australia for 5 years, during which time he received qualifications in aerospace systems engineering and managed several projects in that arena.
As a trainer, he consistently achieves a student satisfaction rating well over 4.75 out of 5. (Transcripts of student evaluations are available on request.) He has presented on his topics of expertise at many international conferences and is regarded as a subject matter expert in the field of IBM messaging systems. His training and experience as a Life Coach and MBTI Master Practitioner equip him well to deal with clients under pressure and with student issues that inevitably arise in a live classroom situation. He is a well-groomed professional who always deals with clients, employers, and students in an honest, ethical way.
He also runs soft-skills training workshops for management, leadership, team-building, and career planning based on several psychological models and life coach training he has received. He has a reputation for being flexible and cooperative when working within tight schedules or when tailoring materials for custom delivery.
Although his home base is usually Los Angeles, Robin currently resides in the UK and is willing to travel. He is also highly proficient in the use of webinar technology, with over 15 years experience using Zoom, WebEx, Adobe Connect, GoToWebinar, and Centra (to name a few).
When not teaching, Robin enjoys performing as a professional magician. A member of the Academy of Magical Arts, Robin frequently visited the Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he performed and volunteered as a Castle Knight, giving tours for guests. When appropriate, he incorporates his magic skills into his live classroom sessions in order to keep the presentations lively and interesting.
Robin is a U.S. citizen and also holds a British passport, allowing him to work legally anywhere in the European Community (although Brexit may affect that). He also holds an Australian passport, allowing him to work in Australia and New Zealand.
